MS on TV

I think I was one of the first ones to get Tivo.  I tell people it was a life-changing event...perhaps a bit of an overstatement, but it is great.  It's so fantastic being able to choose what I watch when I want to watch it.

One of the first things I did when I got Tivo was to schedule it to record any show with the keywords "multiple sclerosis" in the description.  I thought this would be a great way to find out more about the disease.  I was wrong.  In the five years since I bought the Tivo, it has not recorded one worthwhile show or movie related to multiple sclerosis.

An example would be the movie, "In Sickness and in Health (Hearts on Fire)."  The story went something like this:  man has wife with MS; man hires nanny; man has affair with nanny.  I fast-forwarded through some of it, but I did watch the end.  The wife with MS, after finding out about the affair and being paralyzed by MS, is dreaming about running in a field or something.  In her sleep, she is twitching so the husband wakes her up to ask if she was having a nightmare.  She replies that it wasn't a nightmare, it was a dream.  The ultimate in cheese.  If only I could get back the time I spent watching that movie....

This all goes back to a comment I made in an earlier blog entry, "Learn as much as you can."  There are so many sources from which you can get information on MS.  Find the ones that are reliable and contain the information you want.  I have not found television to have a lot of good information on MS.  If there are shows which you recommend, please let me know.  I'll set my Tivo.
